First Impressions of Singapore

It’s true—we have arrived! 7 days in Japan have flown by, and now we are in a completely different part of the world. Singapore is an island city-state off the coast of southern Malaysia. Even though it only encompasses 50 square miles, it has 5.6 million residents and is the 5th wealthiest country in Asia (39th in the world).

As with our trip to Japan, I have SO much to write about. So much to reflect upon, but so little time to do it! We are just too busy experiencing all the things Singapore has to offer. And believe me—for being as small as it is, it has LOTS to offer.

Here are my first impressions of Singapore thus far:

Lots of skyscrapers
Lots of lights
Lots of fountains
Lots of air conditioned malls
Lots of shopping, especially high end stores
Lots of pop-up stores in the malls
Lots of outdoor art
Lots of indoor art
Lots of smokers, mostly young people
Lots of cigarette butts on the ground
Lots of young professionals
Lots of young people, in general
Lots of places to eat
Lots of different types of Asian cuisine
Lots of ice cream shops
Lots of Happy National Singapore Day banners and Singapore flags (This week is Celebration week, and there are so many festivities surrounding it. Lots of banners and flags waving through the air. How luck is that we get to be here for this??)
Lots of patriotism
Lots of tourists
Lots of cultures represented
Lots of new and in-process construction
Lots of color
Lots of cheap deals (good exchange rate here!)
Lots of public bathrooms
Lots of spaces for photo opps that have been built into the infastructure of various buildings (good planning!)
Lots of photo opps in general (SO many pictures being taken)
Lots of technology used all over the place
Lots of underground [air conditioned] walkways

Lots of.....well, everything!
